Meet Our Team
Steven Karp, DO
Dr. Steven Karp is the Medical Director for SOL Recovery Center and its parent company Sprout Health Group. He oversees medical and clinical operations. Prior to joining the company, Dr. Karp was Chief Medical Officer at the Rosewood Center, a behavioral healthcare provider in Arizona. He previously served as Medical Director and Chief Psychiatric Officer for the Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Dr. Karp received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his psychiatric residency at Norristown State Hospital in Pennsylvania. Dr. Karp is an associate clinical professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Penn State School of Medicine.
Jerry Boehm, MBA
Jerry comes to SOL Recovery after working for many years in publically funded behavioral health. He holds a BA in Criminal Justice from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and both a BA and MBA in Business Management from Western International University. Jerry’s broad experience includes positions working directly with adolescents in residential settings including the Eau Claire Academy and Wendy Paigne O’Brien Center, Program Administrator for a Regional Behavioral Health Authority (ComCare), Lobbyist and Director of Operations for the Arizona Council of Human Service Providers, Vice President of Programs for PSA Art Awakenings, and Principal for his own consulting firm – Boehm Consulting and Government Affairs.
Samuel S. Lample, MA, LPC-S, CEDS-S
Mr. Lample is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Approved Counselor Supervisor, Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS), CEDS Supervisor and an International OCD Foundation member and approved therapist. He has been treating individuals with eating disorders and OCD for the past 15 years. Prior to transitioning to Sol Recovery Center, Mr. Lample has been a highly respected Clinical Professional and Program Clinical Director in the treatment industry for 20 years. Sam is passionate about teaching the new generation of therapists and has been an LPC Supervisor since 2008. He is also certified by the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP) to train & supervise individuals towards their Certified Eating Disorder Specialist Certification (CEDS). Mr. Lample counsels from a strong (ACT) Acceptance & Commitment Therapy perspective. He incorporates (DBT) Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and (ERP) Exposure with Response Prevention into the majority of his work. In addition, he uses EMDR as his primary approach to treating trauma. Originally from Baltimore, Sam earned an undergraduate degree in business at Bryant University in Rhode Island and graduated from Regent University in 2000 with his master’s in counseling.
DIRECTOR OF CLINICAL OUTREACH
Rick Baney is the Director of Clinical Outreach. He comes to SOL Recovery Center with 25 years of experience in professional marketing and business development in behavioral healthcare. Personally and professionally, he brings an enormous amount of motivation, resource awareness, and recovery experience to the treatment of addiction and co-occurring disorders. With more than three decades successfully living and supporting the philosophy of treatment and long-term recovery, Rick is an example of the compassion, desire, and knowledge that can help struggling addicts find the recovery, serenity, and success.
DIRECTOR OF CLINICAL OUTREACH
Karen comes to SOL with over 25 years experience in senior leadership, business development, managed care and marketing in the healthcare industry, serving half of those years within the behavioral health arena. Her expertise encompasses both professional knowledge and personal experience in the treatment of addiction and co-occurring disorders. Karen is dedicated and committed to helping patients and families find treatment and begin a journey to recovery and healing of lives once shattered. Karen is an East Coast native and alumni of Arizona State University.
Dan is the perfect balance between life experience and education. Dan is in the last few months of completing his Master’s degree in professional counseling while offering 5 previous years of experience in working as a primary therapist for substance abuse treatment. Dan currently holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Associates degree in Substance Abuse Counseling. Dan has also been certified through his degree program in treatment of trauma. Dan has a story of recovery which shows anyone can get sober if they truly want help Dan offers his clients a patient, loving, and empathetic approach to learning about themselves and how to find true long term recovery from addiction.
Angela Phillips, LMFT
Mrs. Phillips is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She has been treating individuals with co-occurring disorders including substance abuse, and trauma for 6 years. Prior to transitioning to Sol Recovery Center, Mrs. Phillips had been working with couples, families and individuals as a therapist and later moved into Clinical Program Manager position. Mrs. Phillips assisted with created the first Patient Centered Health Home in Arizona which allowed individuals and families to be able to be treated for both mental and physical health under one umbrella. She believes strongly that there is a necessity to treating mental and emotional problems within the context of the family system. She has actively been working on building the family group here at Sol, and incorporating families into treatment on a regular basis. In addition to systems theory, she incorporates (DBT) Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and (CBT) Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in her work. In addition, she uses EMDR as her primary approach to treating trauma. Born and raised in Arizona, Mrs. Phillips earned an undergraduate degree Psychology and in 2010 earned a graduate degree in advanced study degree in Marriage and Family therapy at Arizona State University
Matthew Miller earned a Bachelor of Arts from Vanderbilt University in 1997. He has worked in the mental health field since 2010 in various positions including intake coordinator, case manager, and behavioral health technician.
Matt has been with Sol since the opening in September 2015. As Care Manager, he works closely with clients as they complete the day program by finding resources such as sober living environments and outpatient programs whether here in Arizona or elsewhere in the country.
Jon Dalton, MBA
CLINICAL OUTREACH ASSOCIATE
Jon comes to SOL with over two years of business development and outreach experience in behavioral health. Jon has a passion to help patients get into treatment and begin their lifelong journey to recovery. Being a former professional soccer player in Canada Jon witnessed firsthand the severity of substance abuse and its lasting effects at the highest level. Jon has over 19 years of professional business experience working for Fortune 50 companies in Sales, Marketing and Leadership. Jon holds a Bachelors degree in Economics from Bishop’s University in Quebec Canada and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the Eller College of Management, University of Arizona.
Rebecca graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in Sociology in 2013. Having a gift, and passion for guiding others in a productive direction, Rebecca is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day flow and continuity of the SOL facility. Although she is new to working in the recovery industry, Rebecca understands the impact of addiction. And as an integral part of the Sol Recovery team, Rebecca’s position allows her to see the growth and healing progress each client makes while in our program.
