Perfection doesn’t exist, and prescription drugs are no anomaly. There is a multitude of medications available on the shelves. As useful as they have proven to be to treat the disease or disorder they were made to treat, they bring with them a host of side-effects.

These side effects may be mild, moderate, or severe, and commonly include, but are not limited to:

  • Fatigue
  • Insomnia/Hypersomnia
  • Tachycardia
  • Dependence
  • Nausea
  • Anaphylactic shock

To reduce the risk of falling prey to these side effects, it is required by law for these side effects to be listed on the packaging, and to be made known by your physician, and/or pharmacist. There are also specific contraindications such as pregnancy, or a pre-existing illness that may increase one’s risk for experiencing a side effect. Luckily enough, as time and medical research progress, the risk for side effects reduces with every new chemical combination for a medication. Nonetheless, it is still pertinent to get the whole picture before treating yourself, lest you end up with more to treat.
